Description
Walther Sohnes, Radeberg, Ohnstein & LachmannGerman Polish Milk Glass Hen on Nest ~ Rare
This two-piece hen dish has quite an interesting history. Reference made to Shirley Smith’s “Glass Hen on Nest Covered Dishes” book, Volume 2 – European Companies, page 289.
The patent to this hen was registered by Ohnstein & Lachmann in 1896.
Since Ohnstein & Lachmann was a mustard manufacturer, it remains uncertain as to who poured the glass for this packer container.
Walther & Sohnes (established in 1888) or Radeberg glassworks (later acquired by Walther & Sohnes) are possibilities.
Measurements: Base 5” X 3-7/8”, Top 5¼” X 4-1/8”. The top fits over the lip of the base, which is unlike most of the hens seen today.
Features beautiful mould definition and traces of her original paint remain in places.
This hen is in remarkable condition for her age. No major issues to report. There is a short age line in the center bottom of the thinner delicate rim (seen in the first picture). There are two teeny flea bites on the edge of the lid and one at the top edge of the base. These were difficult to photograph as they are virtually unnoticeable but must mention for accuracy. There are three age lines under tail by the edge of the rim. (Please refer to pictures).
A unique piece for the collector. Ships with insured USPS Priority Mail.
