W. & L.E. Gurley 1890-1910 One Pint Measure - Nickel-Plated Brass - Breweriana.A turn-of-the-century one-pint flask measure made by the legendary science and engineering suppliers William and Lewis Ephraim Gurley, of Troy NY. These measures were manufactured to match absolute standards set by governmental bodies and were used to calibrate and test dispensers of many kinds of liquid, as well as products that claimed to be a certain volume. With this by your side you will never over- or under-serve another guest.
It is hard to judge the date of these measures, as Gurley did not include them in their regular catalogs until the 1950s (pictured). But one collector has noted that after 1910, most Gurley measures were made with reinforcing fins on the bottom.
These are made of machined brass with nickel plating. The Gurley name is stamped along the bottom. On the other side is stamped One Pint. There is some pitting of the finish on the handle, a scratch near the bottom of the handle and another nick about halfway down and to the right of the handle (all pictured). Other small marks are commensurate with age and honest use. The photograph of the bottom shows a funky green object (insect?) that I didn’t see while taking pictures. It has since been cleaned away.
