Description
"Swingers" are traditional, highly-collectible harness ornaments. A swinger is often a delicate, arched bracket made of brass. One or more small open-mouth bells are suspended from the bracket. Swingers are attached to the top of the bridle, the top of the harness saddle or back pad, or the top of the hip drop assembly on the horse's rump.If you have a horse collar and hames with an inset mirror on your wall, you need this complementary set of bells!
This set of five suspended bells appears to be home made - a real
primative
. All five solid brass bells are suspended on a wrought iron frame. A brass loop at the top if each bell protrudes through the frame. A metal pin slides through the loop to keep the four outer bells attached to the frame. The center bell has the same loop but a thick piece of leather is used instead of metal to keep the bell attached. The long descending wrought iron points are meant to be inserted around the horse collar.
