Description
RARE Antique Collectible Scientific Instrument—CalorimeterThis is a rare scientific antique. It is an old calorimeter, and was purchased from the collection of an esteemed scientist and scholar at Slippery Rock University in Western Pennsylvania. He had a vast career in academia, some highlights of which include serving as a visiting professor of chemistry and chemical engineering at Cornell from 1966 to 1968, and serving as the president of various colleges including SRU.
Calorimeters are used to measure thermodynamics, heat capacity, and energy released during reactions in chemistry. The era of this device is unknown, though it is an early design and likely pre-1900s.
