    Post Vietnam US Army Brigadier General's Group - Two (2) Field Jackets and Jump Boots, 1st Corps and 1st Cavalry DivisionTwo Army-issue field jackets still exhibiting heavy starch from parade use. The first M-1957 is size short medium, featuring 1st Corps as the current unit of assignment and 1st Cavalry Division as former wartime service (combat patch). There is a set of basic jump wings (basic parachutist badge) in cloth on the chest and the "Herring" nametag. The second, size short small, is configured similarly however exhibits theater made insignia (US Army strip and jump wings). These are the field jackets of the Deputy Commanding General/Chief of Staff, 1st Corps., Fort Lewis, Washington circa 1982-1983. Also included in the group is his pair of Corcoran jump boots, size 10.Brigadier General Bernard Melville Herring Jr. (1935-1998) served from 1957 to 1985, retiring from the Army as a Brigadier General while serving as the Assistant Division Commander of the 24th Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Georgia. His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit (3), Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (3), Air Medal for Valor (4), and the Army Commendation Medal (3), the Army Parachutist Badge, and the Army Staff Badge. He served with the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam.
