Gabriel Pascal was a Hungarian film producer and director. He was the first film producer
to successfully bring the plays of George Bernard Shaw to the screen. His most successful
production was
Pygmalion
(1938).
The screenplay was later adapted into the 1956 musical
My Fair Lady
, which in turn led to the 1954 film by the same name and an Academy Award for
Best Director to George Cukor. Pascal adapted other Shaw plays including
Major Barbara
(1941)
and
Caesar and Cleopatra
(1945)
.
