Description
Antique Copper and Brass Medical Apparatus - CAPTn JEKYLL'S PATENT VAPOUR BATHNo_ . Made in England circa 1830.
Captain John Jekyll was a Commander in the Royal Navy . He invented this medical device to treat cholera East Indies. An apparatus to produce vapour for lung problem. The complete unit would have included a stool and cape .
The plaque reads as follows: " Honi Set Qui Mal Y Pense Dieu Et Mon Droit " .
No other markings , the number space is blank. Apparently never issued. I read there were approx 30 units made.
A book illustrating this invention is by the author same; John Jekyll. Book title:
'A letter on the great utility of captain Jekyll's patent portable vapour bath in the cholera morbus of east indies and yellow fever of the west indies"
publisher: Saunders Ottley London 1828.
Everything shown is included. Almost complete. Missing is the extension rod for the valve, also the stool and cape are obviously not here. Included are: a boiler, three section of pipe, and a brass container. The parts fit snug, without trouble.

Condition is excellent
Two small dents -see pictures of the top. The sides and bottom perfectly smooth. Inside boiler is tin lined, plating inside is nearly intact. Excellent patina.
