We are Statewide Liquidators ! Located in ConnecticutI've personally spent most my life dealing collecting, buying and selling antiques and musical instruments. I have at least 2000 items in storage I've saved for a rainy day, Well boys and girls. It's pouring outside and it's time to share these with the world. Over the next several months and beyond, I will be selling off EVERYTHING ! I Don't know what I have until I take pictures. Everything will be sold with no reserve ! Expect many surprises !
Rare Guinea and feather Apparatus by James W. Queen & Co. c.1870s
Rare doesn't begin to describe this scientific apparatus. Very few examples survived due to the size of this glass instrument known in the 1874 catalog as a Fountain in Vacuo priced at .00. Identical to Guinea and feather apparatus.
Quite expensive considering that was equivalent to 5.00 today ! (You could buy an acre of land for .00) This might explain few surviving examples and the fact it's approx. 150 years old and made of glass.
This scientific apparatus shows how
two objects (chalk and feather) dropped in a vacuum fall at the same rate, no matter the mass of each item.
The valve is frozen. Makers hallmark on the brass shutoff. It is missing the base. Measures 23-1/2". Overall a very rare scientific instrument to add to any significant collection. Below is a video I discovered. Virtually identical apparatus but unrelated experiment.
