    An early example of Charles Gavard brass pantograph datable from the 1830s’ or early 1840s’ and signed “Gavard rue du Marché St Honoré n°4  / à Paris”.
    This is not a more common example made by Adrien Gavard, the son of Charles Gavard who started after 1845 and was established later at “9 Quai de l’horloge” then at “70 Quai des orfèvres”.
    The pantograph seems virtually complete, made in full brass with four little ivory wheel and preserved in its original wooden traveling case.
    This is a large and heavy instrument, the case measuring 108x18x15 cm.
    A pantograph is a mechanical linkage connected in a manner based on parallelograms so that the movement of one pen, in tracing an image, produces identical movements in a second pen.
