    Description

    Offered: One aftermarket steel chase Golding & Co. Jobber No. 6 (8' x 12') Letterpress Chase.
    This is a unbranded steel chase. Steel chases like this one were somewhat common in letterpress equipment catalogs from the early 1900's. Golding & Co. only offered cast iron chases, the steel chase is a bit more reliable as they were not as liable to crack/break when an overly enthusiastic press person over tightened the quoins in a lockup. These aftermarket steel chases were offered at higher cost than original Cast iron. However that extra cost was minor over the longevity of a steel chase over a cast iron one, especially in a busy letterpress shop.
    Chase is in good usable condition with no flaws, cracks or repairs. I laid the chase on my imposing stone and pressed on opposite corners checked for any rocking; a sure sign of a warped chase. I removed all residual dried on ink and crud.
