letterpress line cut or line engraving (known on ebay as printer's blocks - but a real printer never would have called them that), made from ZINC and wood showing a dog of unidentified breed (I'm not good with dog breeds except for the most obvious ones) standing at a table, looking very bored and/or sad.
The smaller scan shows the line cut as it will look when you pull it out of the package. The larger, zoomed scan (with the dog looking toward YOUR right and with the artist's initials "A.G." NOT being backwards) is "flipped" or reversed and shows - basically - what the printed image will look like (only the image MAY BE be smaller
as this scan MAY BE zoomed up larger than actual size
). Don't judge size of printed impression of this cut from either scan - go back to the previous paragraph and see the ACTUAL SIZE given.
NEAR FINE. Note: sometimes the printer would trim away a small section of the WOODEN backing on a line cut in order to fit lines of type closer to the image. NONE OF THE ENGRAVED IMAGE IS TRIMMED AWAY. This is
not
considered a defect.
