Description
1758 Louisbourg French Indian War Medal Scarce CHOICEWe have a scarce medal in very scarce condition. Many medals within this series come wretched, due to low quality metal they used to strike them. They are often found with chips, cracks, corrosion, and everything in-between. So, finding a nice piece can be difficult. But we have a really nice specimen here just for you.
Front: ADM L BOSCAWEN • TOOK • CAPE • BRETON, Bust of Boscawen in armor facing to observer's right
Back: LOUISBOURG / IUL 26 1758, five ships in water; Louisbourg under attack with a cannon ball striking a tower on a hill
The variety is Betts-403, 41mm, brass. As you can see from the photos, this is a very attractive medal with nice color and surfaces. It's a choice example in every respect! Note: painting of the admiral and the scenic view of Louisbourg are just for show and not a part of this sale.
Very important medal, as this was the key battle of the French-Indian War that led to British (and American) victory!
