Description
Edward Vernon, a Tory back-bencher, who rose in the Commons and boasted thathe could take Porto Bello, the key to the Spanish defences in the Western Hemisphere, “with six
ships only.” In early 1739, he got his six ships and proceeded to make good his boast. Shortly after many different varieties of medals were made to commemorate his incredible achievement, and this is an example of one such medal.
NGC authenticated and graded AU Details. Chocolate and light olive patina with a few spots of reddish verdigris. Complete date and legends with no notable marks.
