    Description

PCGS authenticated and graded XF Details. Beautifully toned with areas of blue highlighting the rims on both sides and gold around the central obverse. The tree is essentially complete, with a bit of weakness just right of the central dot. The tree is actually two different strikes, with the trunk visible visible beneath the leafy mass but the cross-hatched ground visible well right of it. There is some very old gilding left around the 652, II of the XII, the A in ENGLAND, and between the beading and right rim on the reverse. None on the obverse. Faint old hairlines seen on either side, likely left from an attempt to minimize the gilding. The date is a bit weak at 16 but readable and the 52 is clear. Struck on a broad planchet, giving a larger area to impress than most Willow Tree shillings of any variety. Overall the details are sharp, nicely toned , a very pleasing example of this extremely rare Willow Tree variety. Noe recorded just 6, and Andrew Pollock III's survey found 10.
